ALEX WALKER’S “ONE MAN BAND” PLAYS ON – BROOKLYN, NY GUITAR VIRTUOSO CONTINUES TO ASTOUND L.A. AUDIENCES
Crowned one of Indie Rock Cafe’s 2010 “One Man Bands To Watch,” ALEX WALKER recently slung his homemade Telecaster and a satchel of looping pedals across his back and fled Brooklyn, NY’s onslaught of winter storms for the sunnier pastures of Los Angeles. Almost immediately upon arrival, WALKER opened up for Atlantic Records/KCRW darlings GROUPLOVE and was whisked into the fray of the L.A. live-music scene, performing his brand of ghetto-blastered guitar virtuosity seemingly anywhere and everywhere all at once.
In genuine troubadour fashion, this “balladeer from the Big Apple” brings together a romanticized guitar sensibility (honed by decades of studying classical lute suites) with an urgent vocal howl that reveals his grounding in the gutters of Gotham. Performing with a wealth of electronics at his feet, WALKER is able to recreate a full-band with just his guitar, whipping the crowd into a frenzy of dance before cradling the listener back to reality with brief interpretations of pieces by J.S. Bach. Every performance leaves mouths agape but smiling as the audience quietly wonders how one could play the guitar in such a way… without having 17 fingers.
ALEX WALKER currently has a wealth of singles available for free download through Lapdance Academy Music (LapdanceAcademy.com) and a video sample of his performance with GROUPLOVE at the Bootleg Theater can be streamed here.
