This review was not even researched well enough to know basic facts about the band, and you are going to reply with “I dare you to challenge me in a metal discussion. I’m just too good.” You sound like you have an ego problem to deal with before you write anything (Including a reply to this)

Djent – A sub genre of Metal, and term initially used by Meshugga to describe their guitar sound. However, it wasn’t until Misha Mansoor (A.K.A. Bulb) started posting grooves on sevenstring.org that the term took hold and started becoming a full blown genre. (A point many people will still try and argue against)

Now that that is out of the way… I could easily argue that Periphery, TeseracT, Cloudkicker, Animals as Leaders Etc, are the Metalica/Moterhead/Slayer/Anthrax of their djenre. All coming out with similar sounds at similar times appealing to similar people. The only real difference between the groups being that they are younger and subjectively better. Also you like to try and claim all these bands are just ripping off the Drop tuned 8 string grind sound of Meshugga, yet other than the fact its low and syncopated none of them sound the same, at least no more so than Metalica sounds like Motorhead or Deadmau5 sounds like Benny Bennasi.

Ha ha mr reviewer is obviously a musician coz he’s got his head stuck up his own ass!! I hate musicians this album sounds nothing like meshuggah and meshuggah started off as a Metallica wannabe so everyone copy’s everyone that’s life we’re all sheep?!! Suck it!!! Tautology in action see?

I apologize for the 8 string guitar remark. I do not apologize for anything else however. How many times on that album do they do that high pitched shrieking thing? The answer is too many times. That started to bother me more than the copying thing.

We should all note that there were many thrash bands around before and during the beginning of the Metallica era. Venom, Motorhead, King Diamond, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus just to name a few. So your analogy doesn’t really work there. This is the case of a genre coming from one band in particular, not a general push towards a sound like thrash metal was. I dare you to challenge me in a metal discussion. I’m just too good however. WATCH OUT!

You clearly have not done much research into the genre. To be clear, there is one thing here that has me up in arms: “that they are uncreative”. I strongly disagree. You’re making an absolutist statement there that belittles bands and musicians that sound very different indeed. To take a blatant example, go listen to Uneven Structure (in fact, here is a youtube link for convenience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojkjS0BGS_k). Or perhaps try Xerath if you enjoy some orchestral influences.

Am I to assume that you label jazz musicians as uncreative because they all know and play jazz standards and bounce around the same scales? I should hope not. I won’t try to disuade you from your opinion on this album, but don’t dismiss every musician in a band that some youtube kiddies decided to label “djent.” I encourage you to take a deeper listen into the.. “djenre” (sorry, I could not help myself). You may be surprised by what you find.

Dude you need to do your homework. Vildhjarta play seven string guitars, Ibanez for this record and are now endoresing Invictus Guitars of UK, a custom guitar luthier. You are grossly over simplifiying what they write, contradicting yourself several times within this highly subjective review, and in your hate for “djent” spewing musical fascism. I’m no fan boy, but a few minutes of research can tell you a lot about a band. If you despise a genre, stop listening to it! Nobody cares about subjective and unprofessional reviews that distort opinion because the reviewer has an agenda. If no one is allowed to copy a band’s sound and make it their own or take it in their own direction, then I guess after Metallica non of the other thrash bands should write music. Get over yourself and your close minded view of Metal. Here’s a Metallica quote for your problems with this album and djent in general: So Fucking What?

This album is terrible. I was really looking forward to it after some of the older Vildhjarta stuff floating around. They had a good direction going early and they went WAY away from it. Not good.

Although you are entirely entitled to your opinion, I for one totally disagree. Yes they belong to a Genre of Metal that Meshuggah are the pioneers of, but does this mean that no other band can be influenced by them or take a sound and incorporate it into their own? I say no, in fact I say HELL NO! if this were the case music and rock’n'roll in particular would have died long ago. Now you are a guitar player right? So working from your opinion that every band or musician should be 100% new/original, are you claiming you have invented or pioneered a ‘brand-new-never-heard-before’ genre or sound? HELL NO. I’d bet all my worldly belongings that you play and sound like countless metal bands and guitarists before you. Is this a bad thing? HELL NO because that’s how all forms of art have become refined and brought to where they are today.
Also if you researched adequately you would have realized that Jimmie is not the drummer and that Vildhjarta don’t use 8 string guitars. Now I’m all for people making they’re own opinions and judgements about what bands to like or not. But don’t discredit a great band just because it’s not your thing. I dislike many band but that makes them no less credible. Remember opinions are like bum-holes…everyone has one.
